Sedation
You have several options for pain-management during the abortion procedure. We will work with you on a plan that is individualized to you. Our goal is to ensure that you are as comfortable and safe as possible before, during, and after your termination. Please note that sedation is required for if you are over 12 weeks.
Anesthesia Options:
Local anesthesia consists of a medication administered into the cervix which numbs the local area where the procedure is performed. It does not affect your memory of the procedure, as it only impacts the local pain sensors. Women who choose to receive only local anesthesia may drive home after the procedure.
Sedation (anesthesia) is an option for either first or second trimester surgical procedures. Medication is administered orally as well as intravenously (IV) by either a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) or Conscious Sedation Nurse. Most women who choose to receive sedation feel very little discomfort or have no memory of the procedure. If you choose to have sedation, you will be required to have someone with you to drive you home.
